I am beginning this post while sitting in the beautiful domed reading room at the State Library of Victoria, having just finished a chapter of Lamplighter, by D.M. Cornish.
Today, some weeks later, I have just changed trains on my way to work. On the previous train I buried my head in Peter Carey’s His illegal self.
This morning, some more weeks later, I have just woken up to the sound of birds tweeting. Last night I fell asleep after putting down Peter Cameron’s, Some day this pain will be useful to you.
Now, even more weeks later, I am in a cafe in Camberwell amidst the hustle of people grabbing their morning coffee. I am reading Tomorrow all will be beautiful, by Bridget Lowry.
This post has been sitting in my drafts folder for several months. Today I sat in a dentist’s waiting room with The graveyard book, by Neil Gaiman.
Where do you like to read? Bed? Train? Comfy chair? Cafe? Library? Dentist’s waiting rooms? Where else?

I like to read wherever and whenever I can. On more than one occasion when I’ve been driving I’ve read while at stoplights.
My favourite reading spot would be bed. The big appeal is the sense of unlimited time without interruptions so I can immerse myself fully in the story while being cosy and comfy. If I had a fireplace, I suspect reading in front of it would be another favourite spot.
@Quadelle, I love the fact the reading when you go to bed at night means you have unlimited time
I have a chair in the kitchen next to the stove. I like to read there while things are cooking.
@crumpet – now that’s a favourite reading spot that would never have occurred to me! Mind you, there isn’t enough room in our kitchen for a chair.
my stripy hammock in the sun
on a floor cushion under my huge lamp
any patch of lawn
seamstress upstairs bar
front steps of the farmhouse (summer) or by the wood stove (winter)
@vetti – that’s a nice collection of reading places. I particularly like the front steps of a farmhouse. Something about that sounds amazingly appealing.
