NaNoWriMo – the aftermath

by jonathan on December 1, 2008

Today begins the month of December. That means last night I should have finished my 50,000 word NaNoWriMo novel. Truth is, I got about 19,000 words into my novel a couple of weeks ago but ran out of steam. Such is life.
The experience was great and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a bit of an urge to write. Now that the pressure to write so much every day has gone, I may set myself a lesser weekly target to continue my story.
Congratulations to all who finished, especially one of my “recruits”, LibrarianIdol. Congratulations also to all who gave it a shot, like Gizo.
We will now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hey, 19000 words is still awesome! Still congratulations-worthy! :)

If I could write 19000 words this month, I would be happy happy happy (and also finished finished finished this novel).
I always know that if I get past 7000 words (which is often where I stall) that my novel is going to be finished. So you should finish.

Thanks Gizo & Penni. I am quite amazed that I churned out so much in a month. Or in half a month in fact.

I am thinking about setting a more sustainable target of 4000 words per week from now on. Some weeks this may be 4 nights of 1000 words. Other times it might be 2 nights of 2000, or any other combination.

That will get me to 50,000 around February.

After all, young Tinq needs to be given his chance to save the world.

I agree – 15,000 is pretty good. I thought I would do NaBloMo and didn’t even get started. My blogging has been appalling in recent times. You just keep on with it and aim to finish in mid Jan or maybe b4 you come back to work?
